Startling sunset last night. Suddenly it was there! Grabbed Kathy and dragged her down on the dock. You really can't capture it,,,, you have to immerse.

Un-lucky ducks
Today the light was good so I was able to capture some images of our resident Bald Eagle having his breakfast at the expense of a flock of (migratory) black ducks, exact species as yet to be determined. First the eagle stirs up the flock that is in a very tight group, a protective mechanism I guess. When the ducks separate the eagle zeros in on one tasty treat. Amazing scene!

Breakfast on the lake
We've watched this pair of magnificent birds harass, separate and eventually pluck several unfortunate ducks out of the lake each morning this week. Now we know where the term "sitting ducks" comes from. Quite a show!

Jan's Favorite Trees at Rosecliffe
Greetings,
I hope you are all doing well. I included you on this list because I know that many of you have an interest in Rhode Island's arboricultural and horticultural traditions. Whether you have one tree in your backyard or you consider the entire State as your forested playground, I would like to personally invite you to a presentation of which I will be a participant. Jan Armor, a well respected photographer who shares our passions for trees, and healthy urban living will be presenting some of his best work in an introduction to a broader discussion involving the varied approaches to preserving our older trees.
Kelby Fite, a researcher from the F.A. Bartlett Research Facilities will present new research concerning biochar, a new organic soil amendment that holds a great deal of promise in our efforts to protect our aging tree population.

Bittersweet Remembrance
We all received a carnation when we left the Ice Cream Social, a remembrance, one last request from Victoria Wright. It was day filled with tears and laughter, stories flowed and the ice cream was good. She was a great lady, and I take comfort knowing that she will not soon be forgotten. Goodbye, Auntie.
