We watched an amazing scene unfold out on the lake Sunday morning. Two adult Bald Eagles and their two juveniles showed up on the edge of a patch of ice about 200 yards out. These images were taken with a 400mm lens but still had to cropped since the birds were so far away. Both parents demonstrated to the young ones how to snag Coots out of an opening in the ice. You can see coots in the talons if you look carefully. The poor Coots, too stupid to make a run for it, just swam back and forth, back and forth, while the hunting lesson continued for over two hours. Pardon the pun but they truly were "sitting ducks."I never did see one of the juveniles actually catch a coot, although they swooped over the flock many times. This images shows the two juveniles bickering over breakfast… Another amazing adventure on Indian Lake.
