The earth, water and the sky seem to come together when I am out on the lake in the AM or late in the PM, and especially when I am alone.
It's like an aviary here. Birds flying about, music in the air. And then, there are the geese. Very protective of their goslings, and a real battle to keep off our lawn. Now I know what that little long handled scoop is for...

Yesterday morning I took Popeye out for a row around the cove at 6 AM. Brought the cameras. It was a still day. Our flag didn't stir. I was totally alone, immersed in the quiet of the lake, floating in the light. The clouds and the water were one. Every dip of my oar left a line of blue ripples that gently rolled across the reflections in soft waves. Lines of what I assume was tree pollen made crazy abstract patterns that led off into the horizon, in my camera, to infinity. Oars at rest, I let the little boat spinning slowly, absorbing the beauty.

A torrent of rain came in on Sat AM and beat up our Peonies. Now they are tattered and torn beauties, but still lovely.

Our little lake changes by the hour. I rowed across to the far shore at 4 PM in the warm afternoon sun, a gentle breeze playing across the surface of the water. By 6 PM everything disappeared into a cool mist. I had a long line on Popeye, hoping he would drift out into the fog for this HDR image. No dice. My little dingy just sat 10 feet off the pier, going nowhere.

Shooting on the street (or in this case, at the fair) is one of my favorite photo pursuits. Things happen fast on the stage of life one must be ready. I'm practicing for our Waterfire shoot. Hats could be an interesting theme...

Clouds gathered in the west, warning of thunderstorms to come in the night, and making for another spectacular sunset. I rowed Popeye around the island to the north, floating on their reflection, dipping my oars in the liquid light. Wow!!!

We're not sure what has happened to the rest of the family but now there is only one chick left. Mom and Dad are watching over him like hawks (pun intended). This little family considered coming onto our lawn but thought better of it when I approached with my camera.

I took our dingy "Popeye" for a row up the north shore. I felt like I was in a dream. The lake was still, and like a mirror, hardly a ripple except where I dipped my oars. This is a layered composition, two images, that may suggest how it felt.

Last night, 24 hours of 40 knot winds out of the west, a real blow. I tried to reassure Kathy, "Don't worry, it will settle down with the setting sun." No dice, here it is at 7:40 PM. The sky is dark and foreboding, and the waters is still churning, covered in whitecaps. Finally, this morning at 6 AM Indian Lake seems in a more tranquil mood.

My rock is an imposing feature just off our pier. This morning I found it floating quietly on a sea of puffy white clouds.
I hoisted "New Glory" up the flagpole on our pier last night and it made me think once again lucky I am to be here now. In spite of a paralyzed congress, selfish lobbyists, and idiots like Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh, we are truly blessed.

Our tulips have been blooming for weeks, some have gone by, others are still in bud, and many are in full bloom. Shirly Krammer surprise. I picked a few in celebration of (almost) the end of phase two of construction. Matt and Chris will be gone next week. Hurray!!!
