Three Trees, Colt Park

Lovely snow yesterday, and I shot many images of the trees, but this one, from my Colt Park Series, is still a favorite.

Looking at the London Plane Tree

Shooting trees at Salve University the other day. Fabulous arboretum there.
I love looking for forms in the bark and burls of the trees I photograph. Here's a goat? or goblin? You pick.

On thin ice

Out on the ice again. Actually not thin at all. Slipping and sliding all the way across to the boat ramp. Cracks and abstract patterns are always changing as the ice melts in the sun, then freezes again in the night. See a few more> http://jandarmor.zenfolio.com/p802745385/slideshow

Cloud painting

I'm teaching a Circle of Scholars class at Salve University, called Crafting Digital Photographs.
I sometimes do the class assignments myself and this one was on "crafting" motion blur. One of my favorite subjects is cloud formations so out I went onto our cold lake at "Last Light."
I swept the camera quickly left to right, during the exposure. 1/10 of sec at f/29, ISO 100.

Winter "flower" on Indian lake

I happened to have my camera while I was out walking on the lake this afternoon, so I clicked it.
Happy Valentine's Day!

Frigid on Indian Lake

High winds out of the north west at about 40 mph. Sounds like a freight train here.
Wind chill at zero, A very cold sunset, and another freeze over the lake.

This image, purposely over exposed by many stops, looks like it feels.

Dark, brooding sunset over the lake

Setting sun shot through my S tree over a frozen winter landscape. Hoping for a thaw sometime soon.

The marble quarry of

Time stands still in the quarry back behind the Carving Studio,West Rutland, VT. Kathy was here for some sculpture lessons, and I was hanging out. Grabbed my camera and took a walk. Huge white marble blocks and wall size sheets are strewn about everywhere, with weeds and Queen Annes's Lace growing up around them. Very creepy, as if the whistle blew one day in 1954, the men picked up their lunch pails and went home, never to return. Here was a perfect setting for a Stephen King novel. It was a very hot August day, completely still, not a breath of air when I looked around. The signs were everywhere, "DANGER, Absolutely No Trespassing," hoping to keep the kids from their favorite swimming hole. The marble slabs glowed in the harsh light. Deep shadows, sharp angles, and weeds gone to seed as a counterpoint. This was a great spot for some shots....

Encased in Ice

We are inside an ice cube here in Rhode Island,USA. (But then we could be in Chicago.) Temp here is 33 degrees, and every branch is coated in ice. The cars, the street, the bird feeders, and our driveway... all encased. But when I look closely, damn, I can see buds on those branches, little tiny promises that Spring is just around the corner. The groundhog might just be right!
So since I'm pretty much trapped here on Indian Lake, I've decided to switch seasons, virtually that is, and explore those Vermont pictures that I never got around to, summer of 2007. The hasty cutout of "Young Lady of the Corn" comes from a series I shot of the kids jumping into Dorset Quarry. Took hundreds, had the boys doing flips for me, and think these could make a fun video. Maybe for tomorrow. Anyway, I'm thinking summer...

Stay Warm,
